Jack Gavin

Jack Gavin
Born Still - oil on panel, 11"x14"
Jack Gavin was born in Mesa, Arizona in 1973. He studied in NY as well as in Germany where he was also a Teaching Assistant at Bild-Werk Art School. His work has won numerous awards and has been included in many exhibitions including the Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, NY; Corning Painters Group Exhibit, Corning, NY; NY Academy of Art, NYC; Rodger Lapelle Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Oxford Gallery, Rochester, NY; among others.

Gavin's work reminds us of the hand of the old masters, with his dark backgrounds and precise technical handling of his subject matter. It is the subject matter and his compositional style, though, that sets him apart from the art of old. He challenges his viewers to have an open mind regarding the idea of a "traditional still life."
